Day 71 - Willits, CA to Paso Robles, CA
It was right at lunchtime when we rolled into Petaluma. Like most In-N-Out locations, parking was at a premium, but having been to this particular location before i had a specific spot that I thought we could park the RV. However, the side road location that I had in mind was already occupied by a group of smaller cars so I had to find another location. We made a u-turn and parked in the grocery store parking lot across the street right next to another RV that must have had the same idea. Tyler was looking forward to this day since we entered Montana, so he was super excited.
After the meal, on the way back to the RV, Kristen nearly fainted, so we had a rest at the curbside for a few minutes before getting back into the RV to take the short drive over to visit Ed and Verda. Once at their house, we tried to make the best use of our limited time. So just like we had done on the many visits here in the past Luke posed in front of the backyard surfboard.
Tyler's took his turn getting into position for his infamous tree pose that he first performed when he was 4 years old.
And Rachel played with the bunnies like she has always done. Every time we have come here she asks to take one of these bunnies home and every time the answer has been no.
While the kids played with the bunnies, we sat around for a while and talked about our trip and reminisced about all the times we had visited Ed and Verda.
Before we left, we made sure to snap a few more pictures of all of us together.
Unfortunately, we had to limit our stay to about two hours. At this point, we were not yet sure how far we could make. Our first thought was Gilroy, but there just were not that many options to choose from. So we just accepted that we would eventually find a good spot to stay and kept driving.
After navigating through traffic around Oakland, we made a southerly turn again toward open land.
In Gilroy, we stopped and purchased gas for the last time. While stopped there, we made a plan to stay the night in Paso Robles. Like the day before, we were lucky to find a campground with an open space.
We rolled into the campground, but since it was after 7PM and after the site attendants had gone home, we circled the grounds at least once and eventually settled on a good spot and I back the RV in. After getting settled, two Australian girls pulled in behind us and we had a good conversation with them before heading to bed.
