We got an early start and drove across the street to the Fort Steven State Park about 9AM. We were hoping to collect a lot of sand dollars, but most of them had already been found by the seagulls. It took some searching, but we managed to come away with a few whole ones.

Tic-tac-toe in the sand.

the bones of an old shipwreck is the highlight of this part of the beach...that and the clamming prospects. We noticed several people walking away with bags of clams as we arrived.

Tyler found a whole sand dollar...one of the very few.

Headed back to the RV, there was a sand dune area where we stopped to take some pictures.

After the beach, we drove down the road to Lewis and Clark National Historical Park. There, we took the self-guided tour and walked the grounds.

While touring the grounds, the kids answered questions in the workbook so that they could be sworn in as Jr. Rangers when they were complete.

We arrived at Cannon Beach knowing that finding parking for the RV may be difficult so we did some research and found out there are a select few locations dedicated for RV's. Without much trouble we found one of these locations only to have a mid-size truck take up the last spot just as we arrived. Kristen jumped out to ask them if they could move to a regularly size spot about 20 feet away. Luckily, the male driver (and not his female companion, who was unnerved by our request) accommodated us once he saw the large RV right behind him.

Once we gathered up some snacks we headed for Haystack Rocks, watched the puffins and walked up and down the beach a couple of times.

After the beach, we walked through a couple shops including a glass blowing studio. We watched them make a couple of glass objects to be used in their live demonstrations on the next day and had a good conversation with a couple of the artists.

Getting low on fuel, we made a stop and I got out to pump the gas just like I had always done, but do you notice something missing here? The lack of a payment option. Strange, but Oregon still does not people pump their own gas. So we paid the attendant, he pumped the gas and we were on our way.

Continuing on, the original plan was to keep heading south, but it was getting late and we needed to figure out where we were going to stay and just how far we thought we could make it. We decided that it did not make sense just try to find something down the road and actually took a northerly turn back into Seaside and stayed there for the night. Luckily, the campground was a Thousand Trails, which we had an annual pass for so the stay was free. The attendant told us to choose any spot we wanted, so we found this one right by the creek and I backed in.

After settling in, we had a relaxing dinner by the creek.

Seaside was apparently voted prettiest city in the US last year and it is easy to understand why.

S'mores for dessert once again, but this was the first time we had to use our Volcano stove for this operation. Every other time we headed roasted marshmallows we used the camp site provided fire ring or whatever apparatus they had.
