Day 64 - Seattle

We all piled into the minivan that my dad rented and drove into Seattle for the day. We parked in an underground garage and walked down the street to see a giant line at the 1st Starbucks. We took a picture and kept moving.

Across the street was the very large Public Market Center.

The entrance that we took to the Public Market Center was through the flower area. We would have bought some flowers, but since we were going to be walking around all day nobody wanted to carry them.

Moving through the market it was very busy with tourists and locals alike buying groceries and souvenirs and eating at the many restaurants.

The famous fish market where everyone gathered to watch the guys throw fish to customers. We stayed around for a few minutes to watch them throw a couple of fish.

Last night we sent a message to Cory and Lindsay that we were in town and it would be great if we could meet up with them. I know they had plans and very busy day, but they were gracious and made time for us. Before meeting up with them, we have a little time to spare and went inside the tri-level Target across the street from the Hard Rock Cafe.

We ate lunch and caught up on old and new times.

After lunch, we took the monorail further downtown to the Space Needle and surrounding area.

We really wanted to see the Chihuly Garden of Glass. There was a long line inside to buy tickets, but there were automated ticket kiosks located just outside the front doors, so we saved time in line an purchased our tickets there.

Once we entered, the first exhibit were these neon spires. I didn't know that Chihuly did any work with neon, but it's glass and I guess that makes sense.

The same piece this time with a purposeful blur.

Walking room to room, there was so much to look at in all of the art pieces.

After walking through the dark interior, we transitioned to the greenhouse building. Inside, there was a large sculpture hanging from the ceiling.

The sculptures then continued outside into the actual garden area.

Just before exiting the Chihuly Garden we were in perfect position in front of the Space Needle. Mom and Rachel both have a needle in their eye.

Next to the Space Needle as the Frank Gehry designed EMP Center.

Inside there were interactive exhibits themed to help people "experience" music.

Next to the EMP Center there as was an exhibition hall that contained a food court...and a Starbucks. We sat down and enjoyed our drinks for a few minutes before hopping back on the monorail back to the Public Market area.

Before heading back to the car, we walked around a yarn store and then the kids took in the sights over Pudget Sound.

Off in the distance is SafeCo Field with Mt. Rainier beyond.
