Since we we were so close, we decided to start the day with a quick drive across the border into La Crosse, WI.

While in Wisconsin, we drove around this small island area looking for a location that would perform an RV oil change. We were unsuccessful in our search, but we did make a brief stop in a parking lot to eat lunch. After lunch, Rachel and mom went to this country store while the boys went to refuel the RV.

So I thought the drive through northern Iowa was the middle of nowhere. Well, I stand corrected...the most desolate area of the US is on the way to another Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum in Walnut Grove, MN. Mom was not feeling well, so we just rested next to the museum for a few minutes. The museum was also closed, so we decided that we would come back tomorrow for a better look.

From here, we transitioned to a bumpy gravel road for about two miles before getting to our campsite in Lake Shetek, MN. It was the only campsite for 50 miles and it was quite a find. It turned out that we were lucky to even get a spot.

We ate hot dogs for dinner and then Rachel prepared our favorite camp dessert, the dutch oven mixed berry cake.

We did not have a lake view from our location, but it was just a short walk away. While at the lake, we watched some boats, swatted mosquitos and waited for the sun to set.

Waiting for the sun to set.
