Because we were so close, we decided to take a short trip into Michigan to visit Warren Dunes State Park.

It was another cold and windy day on the shores of Lake Michigan.

Shortly after taking this photo a wind gust blew the Travelling Texan from Rachel's hands making for a traumatizing couple of minutes as Rachel chased this paper cut out across the parking lot. She eventually chased him down, but it was not without some tears...we nearly lost him.

Now on to Illinois...

We needed to make another pit stop at Walmart to stock up on food.

Months ago, while planning this trip I discovered that Chicago did not have many good options for campgrounds anywhere near the city. Since driving the RV through downtown was not an option, I really had no idea how were going to see the City. It turns out that at some point recently Camp Bullfrog Lake (about 30 minutes west of Chicago) expanded to include RV accomodations. While this was a spectacular locale and brand new, we discovered that the individual RV spaces were poorly designed. To start, the turning radii were ridiculously tight, so just getting to the spot was more difficult than necessary. Not one of the sites were level and had too much mud and not enough gravel. So by the time I placed the leveling pads under the jacks and set the jacks, the front end of the RV was 18" in the air. It looked hilarious, but it was tolerable. Moving on...pull through locations were nonexistent, even though there was plenty of land to make this happen. Then there was the utility hooks ups located at the left rear of the site. Did they not get the memo that when backing up an RV you cannot see objects behind the rig? Luckily, I had spotters to guide me, but why did they not place the utilities on the left hand side of the space like nearly every other RV park in the US? Last, but certainly not least, there was a steel pole mounted too close to the edge of the gravel that I believe was there to hang a lantern, but happened to perfectly line up with our door. Not only was it hard to get out the door, but both Tyler and I drew blood by banging our heads on this thing at least twice. Ug!

They did do a great job on the bathrooms and showers.

Tyler getting things started by chopping some local wood for the evening fire.

Time to break out the blueberry ribs for dinner. I burned most of them, but of the ones we were able to salvage were delicious.

After dinner we ate our pie for dessert out on the fishing dock.

After untangling Luke's fishing line and buying some nightcrawler from the camp store it was time to fish again.

Nightfall and it was time for another campfire.

We sprinkled on some elements to make the fire crackle and turn many different colors.
