We headed out of Little Rock and changed our plans to dip south into Mississippi instead of heading north to see my dad's cousin in Paris, TN. Along the way, I found a spot not too far off the 40 so we took a serendipitous detour to the Louisiana Purchase State Park which proved to be a good stopping place to have our picnic lunch. It was gorgeous spot- a swampland with a bridge walkway to the stone monument that was the set point for the survey of the Louisiana Purchase.

We spent about an hour there, eating lunch and walking around. It was so quiet. For a time, we were the only people there. A little later another family came through and we were glad to have them take our picture.

From here, we headed east and crossing the mighty Mississippi river into Mississippi and stopped at the Mississippi Visitor’s Center to grab some dirt (for our collection) and stretch before turning north to Tennessee.

We realized we weren’t going to be able to make it to our intended destination Clarksville, so I started looking for alternative RV parks on my phone. I found one with great website pictures that was located in Jackson, so I called to make a reservation and then called to cancel our reservation in Clarksville. It was dinner time when we exited the freeway and we pulled into the RV park. The customary camp host or check-in center was nowhere to be found, just some guy that waved to us to pull around. As we circled the loop of what appeared to be a mobile home park we got a very sketchy vibe and wondered where they were going to tell us to go. As we rounded the end of the loop, some guy in a green polo signaled to us to wait while someone moved their pick-up truck and then proceeded to shoe-horn us into a very tight spot between two other rigs. Yes, there was a electrical, water and a sewer hook-up, but we were so close to the other rigs that we couldn’t extend the slide-outs. Mike opened the window and said, “This just isn’t going to work for us” and we pulled out. We all laughed as this seemed like the “Cable/DirectTV” commercials. We moved on to plan B and were lucky enough to find a place just 30 minutes away that had one more spot-Parker’s Landing RV park. We set up camp as the sun set and put together a quick dinner using a bag of potatoes that I had planned for something else. I used a “Perfect Potato” bag Luke had found at Wal Mart and cooked the potatoes in the microwave, heated some bacon in a skillet and pulled out a bag of shredded cheese. We finished up the evening by toasting s’mores and went to sleep listening to cows moo somewhere in the distance.
